I read Jason Fried’s Version 1 is for you and it made me want to build something, anything.
I cannot find TV shows based on my taste without ads and without being sold something along the way. I pretty much wanted a MovieLens version for TV shows. After a few weeks of brainstorming, I decided to build it myself. That is how TVLens started.
TVLens is my version 1 of something bigger.
I know my version 1 will not resonate with everyone, and I am okay with that. In this version 1, I want to be selfish and build something better for me first, and for other people after.
Here is the difference I keep coming back to. An MVP is a promise to someone else. It is the least you can ship to prove there is money in it later. A version 1 is a promise to myself. I am building it because I want it to exist. The money question comes later, or never.
The next couple of years will be filled with version 1s. Forget MVPs and just start with a v1.
